Background:

- Two pregnant women presented with symptoms suggestive of pre-eclampsia and ultrasound findings of a multicystic placental mass alongside a live fetus.
- One case involved a 16-week gestation with a hydropic placenta and normal fetus, requiring evacuation. The second case at 20 weeks gestation had a normal placenta with a coexistent multicystic mass, necessitating hysterotomy due to bleeding.
Findings:
- DNA polymorphism analysis was performed on placental tissue, tumor, and maternal/paternal blood.
- Genetic analysis confirmed the placental tumor was of paternal origin in both cases, consistent with complete hydatidiform mole.
Implications:
- This confirms the utility of DNA analysis in diagnosing coexistent complete hydatidiform mole and live fetus.
- Accurate diagnosis is crucial for appropriate management and patient care in these rare obstetric complications.
