A rare spontaneous cervical lymphocele, a fluid-filled sac in the neck, was diagnosed in an adult woman. This case highlights the importance of considering primary cervical lymphocele in the diagnosis of neck masses.

Area of Science:

  • Medicine
  • Pathology
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Primary cervical lymphoceles are exceptionally rare in adults.
  • Acquired cervical lymphoceles are more common, often resulting from neck trauma or surgery.

Observation:

  • A 44-year-old woman presented with a two-month history of a left neck mass.
  • The patient had no history of neck trauma or prior head and neck surgery.
  • CT scan revealed a left cystic neck mass.

Findings:

  • Fine-needle aspiration of the cyst yielded chylous material and lymphocytes.
  • Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a lymphocele.
  • D2-40 antibody staining confirmed the presence of lymphatic endothelial cells.

Implications:

  • Primary cervical lymphocele should be considered in the differential diagnosis of adult neck masses.
  • This case expands the understanding of rare cervical pathologies.
