Summary

Radiofrequency (RF) devices significantly reduce bleeding during partial nephrectomy without clamping the renal artery compared to electrocautery. This study found comparable tissue destruction between the two methods.

  • Mean blood loss was significantly lower in the RF group (3.6 mL) compared to the electrocautery group (8.3 mL).
  • One rabbit in the electrocautery group died due to postoperative bleeding.
  • Thermal tissue destruction and injury depth were comparable between RF and electrocautery groups.

Conclusions:

  • RF electrode use in partial nephrectomy without renal artery clamping leads to reduced intraoperative bleeding.
  • RF devices offer a viable alternative to electrocautery with similar tissue destruction profiles.
