    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Dermatology
    • Infectious Diseases

    Background:

    • Anogenital intraepithelial neoplasia is strongly linked to human papillomavirus (HPV) transmission via sexual contact.
    • Research on HPV-related conditions in women is increasing, but less is known about male sexual partners.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence and detection of HPV-related anogenital lesions in male sexual partners of women diagnosed with anogenital intraepithelial neoplasia.

    Main Methods:

    • Male patients whose partners had anogenital intraepithelial neoplasia were recruited.
    • Genital examination and biopsy were performed using a colposcope after applying 5% acetic acid solution.
    • Treatment was individualized based on examination findings.

    Main Results:

    • Genital lesions were detected in 65% of examined male patients, often asymptomatically.
    • Seventy-nine percent of patients adhering to treatment showed no detectable HPV-related lesions post-treatment.

    Conclusions:

    • Magnified examination of male genitalia with an androscope and acetic acid is effective for detecting and treating male HPV-related anogenital lesions.
    • This method aids primary care physicians in managing HPV in male sexual partners.
