- Rats were pretreated to deplete hippocampal norepinephrine (NE) using DSP4 or inhibit NE synthesis with U-14,624.
- Methamphetamine was administered acutely or repeatedly.
- TPH activity and 5-HT concentrations in the hippocampus were measured.

- Depleting NE did not alter methamphetamine-induced reductions in TPH activity or 5-HT levels.
- Inhibiting NE synthesis also failed to affect these methamphetamine-induced changes.

- Norepinephrine is not involved in the acute or chronic effects of methamphetamine on the hippocampal serotonergic system.
- Methamphetamine's impact on TPH activity and 5-HT is independent of norepinephrine signaling.
