Background:

The physician-patient relationship, specifically the working alliance, is a critical component of healthcare delivery.
Understanding the factors influencing patient adherence and satisfaction is essential for effective chronic illness management.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine the relationship between the working alliance and patient outcomes.
To investigate the association between the working alliance, perceived treatment utility, adherence self-efficacy, adherence, and patient satisfaction.

Main Methods:

The study involved 118 patients diagnosed with chronic medical conditions.
Data were collected on patient demographics, duration since diagnosis, and frequency of doctor visits.
Key variables measured included working alliance, perceived utility, adherence self-efficacy, adherence, and satisfaction.

Main Results:

A strong working alliance was significantly correlated with higher perceived utility (r=0.63), self-efficacy (r=0.47), adherence (r=0.53), and satisfaction (r=0.83).
Regression analyses indicated that working alliance and self-efficacy beliefs predicted patient adherence.
Working alliance ratings were a strong predictor of patient satisfaction.

Conclusions:

The working alliance is a measurable and significant factor in medical care, strongly associated with patient adherence and satisfaction.
Assessing and fostering patient self-efficacy is recommended to enhance treatment adherence.
