[Risk factors and complications in orbital surgery, their preventive measures]

Based on the experience in surgically treating 2300 patients with different pathological orbital processes, the author formulates risk factors of possible postoperative complications. These include primarily the form and size of the osseous orbit, no precise information on the topometry of an orbital lesion focus, and inadequate choice of a surgical approach. Postoperative complications are analyzed and evaluated. A role of consideration of risk factors and the application of new technologies using microsurgical techniques is shown to reduce the frequency of complications, late ones in particular.
