Genetic variation in comC, the gene encoding competence-stimulating peptide (CSP) in Streptococcus mutans

Genetic variability in Streptococcus mutans comC genes was studied. Despite diverse alleles, all comC variants in S. mutans are functionally equivalent, unlike in S. pneumoniae.
