To investigate the progress and initiatives for early detection of hearing loss in infants in developing countries.
To assess the current landscape of early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI) services in resource-limited settings.

Main Methods:

A cross-sectional, descriptive study utilizing structured questionnaires.
Data collection supplemented with internet searches and PubMed/Medline.
Focus on service scope, financing, attitudes, and program performance.

Main Results:

Ongoing pilot projects use objective screening tests; services are often free only in limited settings.
Positive parental and healthcare worker attitudes towards screening programs.
Coverage exceeds 90%, but follow-up rates are a challenge; mean diagnosis age is under six months.

Conclusions:

Governmental resource limitations may slow nationwide EHDI service implementation.
Parental payment for services may be necessary in some regions due to out-of-pocket healthcare financing.
