  • Effective treatment options are crucial for improving patient quality of life.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) injection for treating glottal incompetence.
  • To assess patient satisfaction and objective voice measures post-CaHA injection.

Main Methods:

  • A multi-center, open-label, prospective study.
  • Sixty-eight patients with glottal incompetence were included, with each patient serving as their own control.
  • Voice-related outcome measures were collected pre-injection and at 1, 3, and 6 months post-injection.

Main Results:

  • 56% of patients reported significantly improved voice, and 38% reported moderately improved voice at 6 months.
  • Significant improvements were observed in voice handicap index (VHI), visual analog scale (VAS) for vocal effort, and consensus auditory perceptual evaluation of voice (CAPE-V) ratings.
  • Objective measures, including maximum phonation time (MPT) and S:Z ratio, also showed significant improvements in glottal closure.

Conclusions:

  • CaHA injection is a promising treatment for glottal incompetence, demonstrating excellent clinical results in a large patient cohort.
  • The procedure can be effectively performed in an office setting.
  • CaHA injections lead to significant subjective and objective voice improvements.
