Background:

Growing population of older adults necessitates specialized nursing knowledge.
Current nursing curricula often lack comprehensive gerontological content.

Purpose of the Study:

To integrate gerontological and geriatric content across core master's level nursing courses.
To utilize the Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist Competencies for Older Adult Care as a framework.

Main Methods:

Infusion of gerontology content into nursing theory, research, and healthcare law/policy courses.
Development and implementation of specific content, teaching strategies, and evaluation methods.
Utilized a recognized competency framework for content integration.

Main Results:

Successfully integrated gerontological/geriatric content throughout core master's level nursing courses.
Addressed 22 key competencies for older adult care within foundational courses.
Examples of content, strategies, and evaluation methods provided.

Conclusions:

Core courses now provide a strong foundation in gerontological nursing for advanced practice roles.
This integration prepares nurses to better care for the aging population.
Web-based resources for older adult care are also provided.
