Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines effectively prevent infections and precancerous lesions. Clinical trials show these prophylactic vaccines are safe, well-tolerated, and highly immunogenic in adolescents.

  • To assess the immunogenicity and effectiveness of bivalent and quadrivalent HPV vaccines.
  • To determine the optimal target population for HPV vaccination.

Summary:

  • Prophylactic HPV vaccines utilizing virus-like particles (VLPs) are in clinical trials.
  • Two vaccines, Cervarix (bivalent) and Gardasil (quadrivalent), have demonstrated excellent immunogenicity and safety.
  • Approximately 5-year follow-up shows effectiveness in preventing persistent HPV infections and cervical intraepithelial lesions.
