[Study on antibacterial activity of pheromonicin-SP]
1Laboratory of Transplant Engineering and Immunology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.
Objective:
To evaluate the bactericidal activity of purified Ph-SP via in vitro/in vivo assays.
Methods:
The recombinant plasmid was transformed into E. coli TG1 cells to produce the fusion peptide, Pheromonicin-Streptococcus pneumoniae (Ph-SP), the peptide was purified by CM sepharose ion-exchange column. In vitro/in vivo bactericidal assays were performed to determine the bactericidal activity of Ph-SP against Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Results:
Data of in vitro/in vivo assessments demonstrated that Ph-SP had bactericidal effects against Streptococcus pneumoniae, which was approximately 200 times more than that of penicillin G, on a molar basis, and 50 times more than that of vancomycin.
Conclusion:
The Ph-SP may be of value as a novel model of antibiotics against Streptococcus pneumoniae infection.
