Summary

Alcoholism is the leading cause of fatty liver disease (steatosis), followed by tuberculosis. This autopsy study found a 15.8% prevalence of steatosis, with alcoholism also linked to more severe inflammation and fibrosis.

Background:

  • The prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of fatty liver disease can vary significantly across different countries, particularly in regions with a higher burden of infectious diseases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify diverse risk factors contributing to hepatic steatosis.
  • To evaluate the severity of steatosis and associated fibrosis across different patient groups.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective autopsy study involving 1,230 adult cases over four years.
  • 195 cases with confirmed fatty liver were analyzed for risk factors using clinical and laboratory data.
