Migraine management often requires specialized expertise.
General practitioners (GPs) need efficient tools to assess the need for migraine prophylaxis.
Current diagnostic and treatment-decision pathways can be complex for non-specialists.

Purpose:

To develop and validate a concise screening questionnaire for migraine prophylaxis.
To identify key factors influencing the decision to prescribe migraine preventive medication.
To aid non-headache specialists in identifying suitable candidates for migraine prophylaxis.

Summary:

A 10-item questionnaire was developed and administered to 132 migraine patients and their physicians.
Logistic regression analysis identified three key questions influencing prophylaxis decisions: migraine frequency (>3 days/month), attack severity (requiring bed rest), and acute medication use (>5 days/month).
