  • Histologic features of these appendicitis cases were compared to UC patients who underwent colectomy for refractory disease.

Findings:

  • Appendicitis can occur in patients with a history of ulcerative colitis.
  • Histologic analysis revealed appendiceal inflammation in UC patients, suggesting potential appendicular involvement even in inactive disease stages.

Implications:

  • Further research is needed to understand the incidence, presentation, and outcomes of acute appendicitis in UC patients.
