Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate executive function in healthy elderly Chinese individuals.
  • To examine the impact of age and education on specific executive function components.

Main Methods:

  • 58 healthy Chinese adults aged 60+ were divided into two groups (60-70 and over 70).
  • Executive function was assessed using seven neurocognitive tests measuring initiation, attention, switching, disinhibition, planning, and updating.
  • Statistical analyses included independent t-tests and regression analyses.

Main Results:

  • Significant age differences were observed in the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) and the Six Element Task (SET).
  • The older group performed worse on specific measures of the SET and Hayling Sentence Completion Test (HSC).

  • Educational attainment plays a significant role in maintaining executive function in older adults.
