Alternative therapies in antibiotic-resistant infection

This case report highlights a novel treatment for antibiotic-resistant otitis media. Combining lactoferrin with phage therapy offers a promising solution for stubborn bacterial ear infections.

- Lactoferrin, at 50-mg daily doses, was effective in eradicating Staphylococcus strains.
- Patient recovery correlated with increased myelopoiesis and elevated endogenous serum LF levels.
Implications:
- This combination therapy presents a potential alternative for antibiotic-resistant external ear infections.
- Lactoferrin may play a significant role in managing recalcitrant bacterial infections.
- Further research into phage and lactoferrin synergy is warranted.
