Background:

  • Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are common but often self-limiting.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a simple, cost-effective management program for TMDs utilizing CD-ROM technology.
  • To assess the feasibility and acceptability of this intervention.

  • A pilot study involving 41 patients (age 18-70) with TMDs.
  • Participants were divided into three groups: attention placebo (anatomical info), self-efficacy focused, and self-efficacy plus relaxation techniques.
  • Questionnaires were administered at baseline and six weeks post-intervention.

  • Both experimental groups (self-efficacy and self-efficacy plus relaxation) were equally effective in reducing pain, disability, and distress.
