Summary

Sentinel lymph node biopsy is feasible for staging endometrial cancer. Pathologic examination of sentinel nodes accurately reflects the status of other pelvic and para-aortic lymph nodes, aiding in treatment decisions.

  • Nodes were examined via frozen section (H&E) and paraffin-embedded slices (H&E, immunohistochemistry).

    • Main Results:

    • Sentinel lymph nodes were identified in 77.5% of patients.
    • Neoplastic involvement was found in 16.1% of identified sentinel nodes.
    • Sentinel node status accurately predicted the condition of other lymph nodes, with a low false-negative rate (4%).

    Conclusions:

    • Sentinel lymph node identification is achievable in endometrial carcinoma.
    • Pathologic examination of sentinel nodes reliably indicates the status of regional lymph nodes.
    • This method can refine staging and guide treatment for endometrial cancer.
