Summary

Perforator flaps offer a safe and reliable option for autologous breast reconstruction in congenital deformities. This technique can achieve excellent aesthetic results with minimized donor-site morbidity for selected patients.

Background:

Congenital breast deformities present a significant reconstructive challenge for plastic surgeons.
Common deformities include Poland syndrome, unilateral hypoplasia, tuberous breast anomaly, and amastia.
Patients are typically young individuals seeking aesthetic restoration.

Observation:

A retrospective review of 12 perforator flap reconstructions for congenital breast deformities between 1994 and 2005.
Cases involved Poland syndrome (n=8) and unilateral breast hypoplasia (n=4).
Internal mammary vessels were consistently used as recipient vessels.

Findings:

No flap loss occurred, and no vein grafts were required.
Postoperative complications included seroma, hematoma, and nipple malposition, with 30% requiring revision.
