Summary

Surgical excision successfully treated a vaginal leiomyoma in a seven-year-old Blue Heeler. Ovariohysterectomy may prevent recurrence of this benign smooth muscle tumor.

Background:

Vaginal leiomyomas are uncommon benign tumors in female dogs.
Submucosal, intraluminal masses can cause clinical signs depending on size and location.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the surgical treatment of a large vaginal leiomyoma in a young dog.
To discuss differential diagnoses, etiology, and preventative measures.

Main Methods:

A 12 cm vaginal mass was surgically excised via episiotomy.
Histopathological examination confirmed leiomyoma.

Main Results:

Complete surgical removal of the vaginal leiomyoma was achieved.
The dog had no urinary issues and recovered well.
