Summary

Inflammatory gene expression differs between nasal polyps and surrounding tissues. Transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) may play a role in inhibiting nasal polyposis development.

Identification of OTX1 and OTX2 As Two Possible Molecular Markers for Sinonasal Carcinomas and Olfactory Neuroblastomas

  • Out of 96 inflammatory genes analyzed, 36 showed differential expression between nasal polyps and adjacent inflammatory mucosa.
  • All 36 differentially expressed genes exhibited higher expression levels in the inflammatory mucosa compared to the polyp tissues.
  • RT-PCR results confirmed the findings from the cDNA microarray analysis.

Conclusions:

  • The study identified significant differences in inflammatory gene expression patterns in nasal polyposis.
  • Elevated expression of TGF-beta1 in inflammatory mucosa compared to polyps suggests a potential inhibitory role in the pathogenesis of nasal polyposis.
