Summary

This study found that both self-etching and separate-etching dental bonding agents significantly reduced tooth sensitivity to cold stimuli after 13 weeks. No significant difference in pain reduction was observed between the two types of agents.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare postoperative pain associated with a cold stimulus between two types of dentin bonding agents.
  • To evaluate the efficacy of a self-etching, self-priming agent versus a self-priming agent requiring a separate etch step in reducing tooth sensitivity.

Main Methods:

  • A community-based, randomized, double-blind clinical trial involving 76 participants and 209 restorations.
  • Participants received restorations using either a self-priming resin with a separate etch step or a self-etching, self-priming dentin bonding agent.
