  • Behçet's disease (BD) is a multisystem vasculitis.
  • Pulmonary involvement in BD is associated with poor prognosis and high mortality.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report on patients with BD and pulmonary involvement.
  • To discuss pulmonary artery thrombus and small-sized vasculitis in BD.

Main Methods:

  • Study included fifteen patients with BD and pulmonary involvement.
  • Massive hemoptysis was observed in all patients with pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA).

Main Results:

  • Eleven patients had macroscopic pulmonary vascular disease (PAA, thrombi, or both).
  • Three patients had microscopic pulmonary vascular disease.
  • One patient had pulmonary cryptococcosis.

Conclusions:

  • Pulmonary vasculitis in BD involves macroscopic and microscopic disease.
  • Pulmonary artery thrombosis is a key finding, distinct from pulmonary emboli.
  • Spiral CT angiography is optimal for diagnosis; treatment varies by vascular disease type.
