Tumor Progression

Tumor progression is a phenomenon where the pre-formed tumor acquires successive mutations to become clinically more aggressive and malignant. In the 1950s, Foulds first described the stepwise progression of cancer cells through successive stages.

Summary

Trefoil Factor 3 (TFF3) expression decreases in early colon cancer stages but increases in later stages, suggesting a protective role against colon carcinogenesis. Its down-regulation in invasive cancers indicates a complex involvement in tumor progression.
