Background:

Multiple sclerosis (MS) significantly affects the daily lives of individuals diagnosed with the condition and their partners.
Understanding the psychosocial impact of MS on couples is crucial for developing targeted support strategies.

Observation:

This qualitative study interviewed two couples affected by MS through semi-structured interviews.
Interviews were conducted both jointly as couples and individually to capture diverse perspectives.

Findings:

Two primary themes emerged: heightened awareness of progressive changes due to MS and the implementation of various coping mechanisms.
Participants articulated concerns regarding the disease's progression and its evolving impact over time.
A range of adaptive strategies were discussed by individuals and their partners to manage MS-related challenges.

Implications:

Findings provide valuable guidance for occupational therapists in tailoring treatment plans for couples managing MS.
Highlights areas for future qualitative research focusing on the dyadic experience of living with multiple sclerosis.
