Summary

Hip structural analysis (HSA) using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) measures bone geometry for strength assessment. While geometric parameters predict fracture risk, they may not outperform bone mineral density (BMD) alone.

Background:

Bone strength depends on architecture, geometry, and tissue density, not just bone mineral density (BMD).
Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is a common tool for BMD measurement.
Limitations exist in assessing bone strength using 2D DXA data.

Purpose of the Study:

To introduce hip structural analysis (HSA) as a DXA application for measuring proximal femur geometry.
To evaluate the utility of geometric parameters in fracture risk prediction and therapeutic monitoring.

Main Methods:

Hip structural analysis (HSA) quantifies geometric parameters like cross-sectional area and section modulus from DXA scans.
