Apoptosis is a combination of two Greek words, 'apo' and 'ptosis,' meaning separation and falling off, respectively.   • TCR γδ expression was significantly lower in asthma patients (Group A) compared to elderly controls (Group B) (P < .05).
  • CD95 expression was significantly lower in asthma patients (Group A) compared to adult controls (Group C) (P = .0001), but not elderly controls.

Conclusions:

  • Age-related immunological changes may increase CD95 and CD25 T cell expression.
  • Elderly asthma patients on steroids exhibited normal receptor levels, suggesting steroid influence.
  • Reduced gamma delta T cells in long-lasting asthma may limit their modulatory effect on allergic inflammation.
