High matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2) and MMP11 levels are common in premenopausal breast cancer patients with luminal A invasive ductal carcinomas. This pilot study suggests potential co-regulation of MMP2-MMP10 and MMP8-MMP9.

  • High MMP2 levels were more frequent in premenopausal women (p=0.02).
  • MMP2 and MMP11 showed a strong association with menopausal status in luminal A invasive ductal carcinomas (p=0.005 and p=0.02, respectively).
  • No correlation was found between MMP expressions and other clinicopathological parameters; weak co-expression correlations were observed for MMP2-MMP10 and MMP8-MMP9.

Conclusions:

  • Luminal A invasive ductal carcinomas frequently express high MMP2 and MMP11 levels in premenopausal patients.
  • Findings suggest potential co-regulation of MMP2-MMP10 and MMP8-MMP9 in breast cancer.
  • This pilot study highlights specific MMP associations with menopausal status in a subset of breast cancer.
