Abstract:
In a series of 78 cases of micropolycystic ovaries in the adolescent girl, the authors have found 25 pregnancies : 5 spontaneously occurred pregnancies, 8 following a sequential therapy, 12 after induction of the ovulation. Several important notions can be drawn from this study : There is a remarkable continuity between ovarian anomalies in the adolescent girl and gestational anomalies in the young woman. Only the sequential therapy is able to stop the course of ovarian cyclodystrophy. Thus, spontaneous pregnancy occurs only in patients having undergone early treatment. Induction of ovulation is necessaryin the other cases; the efficiency of clomifene should be stressed in this connection. Finally, these pregnancies require strict medical control, because of the high incidencec of premature interruption.

Hormonal Control of the Ovarian Cycle
Before puberty, the hypothalamus releases GnRH in a low frequency, low amplitude pulsatile manner. This along with the immature hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activity, results in low estrogen levels and the absence of a fully functional ovarian cycle. At puberty, GnRH secretion increases in both frequency and...
