Summary

Adult nephroblastoma (Wilms' tumor) is rare but treatable. Adults treated with pediatric protocols show improved outcomes, with overall survival reaching 71% and event-free survival of 84% for early stages.

  • To compare adult nephroblastoma prognosis with that of pediatric patients.

  • A total of 41 adult patients (older than 16 years) diagnosed with nephroblastoma between 1994 and 2005 were enrolled.
  • Treatment followed the established pediatric nephroblastoma protocol.
  • Median age at diagnosis was 25.4 years, with ages ranging from 16 to 62 years.

Main Results:

  • Adult patients presented with higher local stages and more frequent metastasis compared to children.
  • Vincristine treatment led to significant neurotoxicity in several adult cases.
