Hyperlactemia can predict the prognosis of liver resection

Arterial plasma lactate levels on ICU admission are excellent predictors of patient outcomes after liver resection. Higher lactate and lower base excess correlate with increased mortality, complications, and bilirubin levels, indicating their prognostic value.
