Summary

Proteus syndrome, a rare congenital disorder, can cause severe anal bleeding. Doppler-guided haemorrhoidal artery ligation (DG-HAL) offers a safe and effective treatment option for affected individuals.

  • Approximately 200 cases have been reported, but none linked to hemorrhoidal anal bleeding.

Observation:

  • A 21-year-old male patient with Proteus syndrome presented with severe anal bleeding from hemorrhoids.
  • Surgical hemorrhoidectomy was deemed too high-risk due to extensive venous abnormalities identified on CT scans.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent Doppler-guided haemorrhoidal artery ligation (DG-HAL).
  • This minimally invasive procedure successfully controlled the anal bleeding.

Implications:

  • DG-HAL presents a viable and safe alternative for managing severe hemorrhoidal bleeding in patients with Proteus syndrome.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering less invasive surgical options in complex vascular conditions.
