Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Hematology
  • Radiotherapy

Background:

  • Lymphogranulomatosis patients undergoing radiotherapy often develop leukopenia.
  • Leukopenia can necessitate radiotherapy interruptions and require costly treatments.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of fibrous carbon enterosorbent VESTA in treating leukopenia.
  • To compare VESTA treatment with traditional methods in patients with lymphogranulomatosis.

Main Methods:

  • A comparative study involving 46 patients with lymphogranulomatosis undergoing radiotherapy.
  • Group I (23 patients) received VESTA tablets for 14 days upon leukopenia onset.
  • Group II (23 patients) received traditional parenteral therapy.

Main Results:

Related Experiment Videos

  • Leukopenia was cured in 78% of patients treated with VESTA versus 48% in the traditional group.
  • Leukocyte counts increased by 2-fold in the VESTA group and 1.6-fold in the traditional group.
  • VESTA treatment significantly reduced radiotherapy interruptions and the need for transfusion media.

Conclusions:

  • Fibrous carbon enterosorbent VESTA is an effective treatment for leukopenia in lymphogranulomatosis patients undergoing radiotherapy.
  • VESTA offers a more efficient and cost-effective approach compared to traditional therapies.
  • Enterosorbent administration can improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
