Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the diagnostic efficacy of the cytobrush method versus the standard scraping technique for isolating dermatophytes in tinea capitis.
  • To evaluate the detection rates and time to positive results for both methods.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective, observational, comparative trial involving 178 probable tinea capitis cases across two dermatology centers.
  • Mycological analysis included direct microscopy (KOH preparation) and fungal cultures.
  • Cultures were performed using either traditional scalp scraping or the cytobrush method.
