    Background:

    • Consanguineous marriage is a known risk factor for genetic disorders.
    • Cataracts and retinal detachment are common ophthalmic conditions, but their co-occurrence is unusual.
    • Membranous cataracts, characterized by lens capsule remnants, are rare.

    Observation:

    • A 36-year-old male presented with bilateral membranous cataracts and bilateral rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).
    • Ocular examination revealed an absence of crystalline lenses, replaced by fibrotic membranes.
    • Funduscopic examination confirmed bilateral retinal detachment with liquefied vitreous.

    Findings:

    • Vitrectomy successfully reattached the retinas in both eyes.
    • Identification of retinal tears confirmed the rhegmatogenous nature of the RRD.
    • The co-occurrence suggests a potential link between membranous cataract and RRD.

    Implications:

    • This case may represent a novel syndrome linking membranous cataract and RRD.
    • Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment could be a newly identified complication of membranous cataracts.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate the genetic and pathogenic mechanisms involved.
