Vessel embolization using the Amplatzer Vascular Plug (AVP) can be an effective adjunct in transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedures. This technique helps reduce rebleeding from esophageal varices and can close TIPS when hepatic encephalopathy is severe.
