Summary

A rare horseshoe-shaped linear epithelial keratitis case was treated with deep corneal scraping. This intervention led to healing without recurrence, suggesting a novel therapeutic approach for resistant cases.

  • A 21-year-old soldier presented with horseshoe-shaped epithelial keratitis unresponsive to immunosuppressants and antimicrobials.
  • Diagnostic tests, including cultures and PCR for herpes simplex virus, were negative for microorganisms.
  • Impression cytology showed polymorphonuclear leukocyte infiltration.

Findings:

  • The keratitis did not respond to various antimicrobial therapies or corticosteroids.
  • Deep corneal scraping using a disc-knife resulted in complete lesion healing.
