Summary

Adult nocturnal enuresis, or bedwetting, is often overlooked and misunderstood. This review highlights its distinct characteristics and the need for greater research into its causes and treatments.

Nocturnal enuresis is common in children, often dismissed as normal development.
Adult nocturnal enuresis is under-discussed and surrounded by misconceptions.

Purpose of the Study:

To review existing literature on adult nocturnal enuresis.
To highlight key aspects of adult enuresis etiology and management.

Main Methods:

A literature search of PubMed from 1970-2005 was conducted.
Search terms included "nocturnal enuresis AND adult*".

Main Results:

Out of 220 reviewed papers, only 87 discussed enuresis persisting into adulthood.
Focus was placed on pertinent aspects for adult patients.
