Tilt Testing with Combined Lower Body Negative Pressure: a "Gold Standard" for Measuring Orthostatic Tolerance

[Comparison of orthostatic hemodynamic changes in patients with essential hypertension vs. healthy individuals]
Abstract:
Two groups of people aged 32 to 57 were examined using orthostatic test. Group I consisted of 27 healthy people (17 men and 10 women); group 2 consisted of 22 patients with essential arterial hypertension (EH). In EH patients the response of system circulation to the change of hydrostatic pressure difered from that in healthy individuals. The authors offer a clinical classification of EH oriented towards early diagnostics and prophylaxis during the first, reversible, stage of the disease.

Alterations in Blood Pressure
Hypertension (High blood pressure)
Hypertension occurs when blood pressure readings consistently exceed the normal range. It is diagnosed when systolic blood pressure (the top number, indicating pressure while the heart beats)...
Special considerations while measuring blood pressure
Monitoring Both Arms:
Monitoring BP in both arms during the initial assessment is advisable, as the systolic value may differ by five to ten mm Hg between arms. For subsequent BP assessments, use the arm with the higher reading.
