Summary

Tuberculosis of the axillary lymph nodes is uncommon and can mimic breast cancer metastases. This case highlights the importance of considering tuberculosis in differential diagnoses, especially in endemic areas.

Background:

Axillary lymph node tuberculosis is a rare condition.
It presents diagnostic challenges, particularly when differentiating from breast carcinoma.

Observation:

A case of tuberculous axillary lymphadenitis was discovered during the investigation of presumed liver metastases.
The condition was initially misdiagnosed as metastases from an occult breast carcinoma.

Findings:

The patient presented with symptoms initially attributed to advanced breast cancer.
Diagnostic exploration revealed tuberculous axillary lymphadenitis, not breast cancer metastases.

Implications:

Tuberculous axillary lymphadenitis must be included in the differential diagnosis for axillary masses.
This is especially crucial for patients residing in or originating from tuberculosis-endemic regions.
