  • Striae gravidarum (SG) is a common connective tissue change during pregnancy.
  • SG can lead to significant cosmetic concerns for expectant mothers.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the frequency of striae gravidarum in Iranian pregnant women.
  • To explore associations between SG and maternal/newborn characteristics.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective observational study included 118 primigravid women.
  • 114 women completed the study, with data collected at their first prenatal visit and post-delivery.

Main Results:

  • Striae gravidarum developed in 87.7% of participants.
  • Factors such as family history, BMI, abdominal/hip girths, and newborn size were significantly associated with SG presence and severity (Davey's score).

Conclusions:

  • Both genetic predisposition and physical factors appear to contribute to striae gravidarum development in primigravid women.
