Pregnancy in cyclic neutropenia.

Background:

Cyclic neutropenia is a rare hematologic disorder characterized by periodic drops in neutrophil count.
Pregnancy can significantly alter immune function and disease presentation.

Observation:

A patient with cyclic neutropenia experienced disease improvement during two successful pregnancies.
Following one delivery, she developed severe endometritis and episiotomy wound dehiscence.
The neonate presented with pemphigoid, a rare autoimmune blistering disease.

Findings:

Pregnancy may have a beneficial effect on cyclic neutropenia.
Postpartum complications, including infection and wound healing issues, can occur.
Neonatal pemphigoid is a potential complication observed in the offspring.

Implications:

This case highlights the complex interplay between cyclic neutropenia, pregnancy, and postpartum health.
Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms behind pregnancy-induced improvement in cyclic neutropenia.
Awareness of potential maternal and neonatal complications is crucial for clinical management.
