Summary

Sustained +Gz exposure in fighter pilots impairs memory encoding, not retrieval. This study found that while pilots could recall previously learned information, their ability to form new memories was reduced by approximately 10% during high G-force exposure.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of sustained +Gz exposure on memory encoding and retrieval processes in pilots.
  • To differentiate the impact of hypergravity on distinct memory phases.

Main Methods:

  • Eighteen healthy males, including experienced pilots and novices, participated.
  • A continuous recognition task (CRT) was used to assess memory performance under varying G-loads.
  • Physiological data (ECG, SpO2, BP) and response times were continuously monitored.
