Type 1 diabetic serum interferes with pancreatic beta-cell Ca2+-handling

Approximately 30% of type 1 diabetes patients and their relatives have serum that impairs pancreatic beta-cell calcium handling. This serum effect on calcium (Ca2+) does not correlate with autoantibodies but may worsen beta-cell destruction.
