[Diabetic maculopathy--therapeutic results and causes of failure]
1Florica Ignat-Clinica de Oftalmologie Craiova.
Purpose:
The paper evaluate the efficiency of macular laser treatment and the identification of the negative or insufficient conditioning factors of this treatment.
Material And Method:
The study involved 47 patients with type II diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia, with CSME. For all patients, laser macular treatment was realised. The follow-up period varied between 12-42 months.
Results:
The statistic findings suggest that the laser treatment is efficient for the most important part of the patients, in 12-24 months, only few patients with poor metabolic control or renal failure had poor results.
Conclusions:
The macular oedema and macular plaques start to regress 6 months after the laser procedure initiation and become complete after 12-24 months. The hypo or hyperglycemia , the incomplete laser treatment, other general diseases are causes of the therapeutic failure.
