Introduction:
Large-scale genomic studies based on DNA microarrays improve our understanding of the pathophysiology of cancers. The use of these research findings to improve diagnosis, prognosis and treatment is the current challenge of research in genomics.
Exegesis:
The article briefly describes the DNA microarrays technology and use in oncology and underlines the steps required to translate research findings of correlations between gene expression and type of cancer, outcome or response to chemotherapy into robust clinical tools.
Conclusion:
Genomic technologies available today are sufficient to develop useful molecular markers for individual patient management.
