Unique challenges for the pediatric transplant administrator

Pediatric transplant administrators face a variety of unique challenges that are generally not encountered by their adult program counterparts. Not only do the size of the patients differ in pediatric care compared with adult care but the size of the programs is dramatically different as well. These differences lead to distinctive challenges in administering a transplant program. This article highlights 3 of the essential areas in which pediatric transplant care differs from adult care: the environment of care, staffing, and reimbursement.
