  • Female gender, younger age (<=40), inflammatory bowel syndrome symptoms, prior abdominopelvic surgery, poor bowel preparation, longer insertion time, and lower BMI were associated with discomfort.
  • Multivariate analysis identified younger age, female gender, lower BMI, examination difficulty, and prior female gynaeco-pelvic surgery as independent predictors of discomfort.

Conclusions:

  • Younger, female patients with a history of gynaeco-pelvic surgery are at higher risk for an uncomfortable colonoscopy.
  • Factors like lower BMI and procedural difficulty also predict patient discomfort.
